Neobi Wins Judge's Choice Award!
We’ve officially completed The Accelerator program with an amazing conclusion at Pitch Party YYC!
The morning started at Dentons’ law offices in downtown Calgary on June 21st. The Accelerator team invited a select group of investors to be the first to hear our cohort’s pitches, and afterwards each founder received 15 minutes of expert advice and feedback. Our Founder and CEO, Michael Colbourne, gave a great early morning pitch to Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists. We’re incredibly pleased with how the morning went and we received some vital feedback from investors and partners.
Pitch Party YYC’s evening reception had a great turnout, and the event was an incredible conclusion. We were joined by our team, friends, mentors, entrepreneurs, and investors, all of whom we pitched to. Afterwards, we won the Judge’s Choice Award presented by Alberta Innovates, who also granted us the title of Calgary's Next Unicorn!
We’re so grateful to have been a part of such an amazing batch of startups. Each founder helped create an amazing support system, and thanks to them we now have one of the finest networks in the entrepreneurial community. In gratitude of an amazing batch of people, we’d like to acknowledge each startup who joined us:
TeamFund: Founder Dominique Fraser Laundry, and partner, Crystal Milne are making fundraising easy. Their e-commerce platform helps sell items from local food vendors to help raise money. Their system reduces the logistical and financial pains of fundraising, so users can focus on what matters during volunteering.
Rooco: Andrew Ashton is the Founder and CEO of Rooco; a ticket sharing app that guarantees users 10% savings on their traffic tickets. Users can pay for their tickets using the app and avoid time-consuming visits to the courthouse. We want to congratulate Rooco for winning the Dentons Investor’s Choice Award!
Goodlawyer: Co-founder and CEO, Brett Colvin, and co-founder, Steven Bodi, have created an online legal services marketplace. Now, lawyers can bid for jobs securely online. We want to congratulate Goodlawyer on winning the PwC Canada People’s Choice Award!
The Spesh: Jesse Donez is a co-founder of The Spesh, a mobile app that showcases specials at restaurants. Whether it is food, beverages, or entertainment, The Spesh has information on the best deals!
LevellingUp: Founder and CEO, Mike de Boer, co-founder and CTO, Victor Lee, and co-founder and CMO, Julie de Boer have created an online platform for leadership coaches. The right leadership skills are imperative in the work place, but hard to come by. So LevellingUp pairs groups of individuals to an experienced leader that coaches them about successful leadership skills.
Green Mesa: co-founders Ryan Bournes and Peter Zhou created a system that delivers emission measurement, reporting, and asset performance analysis through intelligent monitoring for the Oil & Gas industry.
BoxOfDocs: Founder, Derrick Koenig, and Vice President of Technology, Christina Gomez, have created an industry specific online sharing platform for documents. The highly specific search engine allows users to find documents they need in minutes, instead of days.
VIVRE: Founder, Marianne Arquillano-Baptie has conceptualized a waterless, makeup brush cleansing device. Instead of using water, VIVRE uses technology to sanitize brushes, completely expediting the process.
My Mobile Menu: Founder, Phil Crocker, has created an app that is a unique digital dining roaming profile that integrates with restaurant’s POS systems. This helps cut down on labour costs for the hospitality industry and empowers users to manage their own ordering and payment.
The Accelerator program has bestowed immense value for the entire batch. We’re now connected with mentors that would have been extremely difficult to reach, or discover, were it not for this program. Learning to pitch was an imperative skill that we will continue to practice. Being concise and comprehensive is hard to master when one is an expert within their business. Thus, learning to take a step back and look at how we pitch ourselves to non-experts was ground breaking. Pitching requires one to present the company at the same knowledge level of the audience and still make it interesting. We also learnt how to raise capital, what investors are looking for, the importance of slide decks, and so much more.
Each Monday, we got to feast on delicious Inglewood meals, courtesy of The Accelerator, and learn a different topic during the Founder Dinners. We don’t want to give away all their secrets, so if you want to learn more details, you’ll have to join the program! 😉
So, what’s next you ask? We’ll be raising a seed-round as we make our way to the big leagues! If you are interested in investing in Neobi, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org! Keep up to date with what we’re doing on our Linkedin and website!
